About DuraCord Yarns
DuraCord is a man-made, industrial-strength yarn with the look and feel of cotton. DuraCord is produced under strict manufacturing standards and undergoes ultraviolet treatments and other anti-microbial enhancements, which help keep it from degrading even under the worst outdoor conditions. Jute, which is often used in the construction of outdoor rugs, is not part of the make-up of DuraCord rugs or their backing, since it often causes mildew growth.

The Hand-Hooking Process
To create your DuraCord rug, craftspeople following strict design standards use an ancient hand-hooking technique developed in the Orient. First, the design of the rug is placed onto the base synthetic canvas. The canvas is then stretched onto a frame, at which point the artisans will begin the true creation of the rug. DuraCord yarn, which begins life wound onto spools, is threaded into a rug needle and hooked into the canvas, following the transferred lines of the design.

After hooking, the rug is finished with a weather-proof binding adhesive and an open-weave net, which help hold the rug together and keep its shape and size intact. Plush, comfortable, durable, and incredibly detailed, these high-quality rugs are originals - because of the nature of handcraftsmanship, no two are exactly alike.
